The short film he directed, Sea Life, screened at Sundance and many other festivals. Sequences were featured on Entourage as the 'film directed by a genius.' The NYTimes singled out his directorial episodes of The Affair as the best work of the season. His microbudget feature, How the Light Gets In, is currently on Amazon Prime. He is in post-production on the psychological thriller Spirit Lock with Joe Anderson.

Steven Fierberg, ASC just received the 2024 ASC Career Achievement Award from the American Society of Cinematographers. He previously won another ASC Award and a Latin Grammy.

Steve created the 'look and feel' of some of the most successful series in television, including The Affair (Golden Globes Winner, Best Drama), Emily in Paris (Golden Globe nom), Entourage (5 Golden Globe noms), Once Upon a Time and Attila (ASC Award Winner for Outstanding Cinematography). He recently shot Amazon’s epic Wheel of Time and is currently shooting Bosch Legacy.

His feature cinematography includes Ed Zwick's Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, Entourage, Joel Schumacher’s Twelve (Sundance premiere), Steven Shainberg's Secretary (Sundance Special Jury Prize), and Sally Potter's Rage. Alex Cox's Searchers 2.0 received an ovation in Venice for cinematography. Hollywood Reporter lauded "stunning visuals captured to mesmeric effect."

Steve won a Latin Grammy for shooting the Best Video of the Year, Draco's Mas Y Mas. Hess worked with Dre, Snoop, Easy E, Fab Five Freddy, Latifah, Yoko Ono, Alexa Villa, Tim McGraw and Kid Cudi.

A native of Detroit, Steve escaped to Stanford University as a National Merit Scholar. His senior year was spent in a joint program with Oxford University in England studying British drama and film.

He then plunged into the New York underworld of graffiti art and 'Punk Noir' films, beginning his career in filmmaking as a cinematographer. He worked with Andy Warhol director Paul Morrissey, Scott and Beth B, and Paul Bartel. At the same time, he apprenticed in Los Angeles for D.P.'s Adam Greenberg and Dean Cundey.

Fierberg's keen eye helped the launch the careers of many first-time directors, including Renny Harlin on A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Dream Master, introducing Hong Kong-style action filmmaking to America.

In the midpoint of his successful career as cinematographer, he took the time to get an MFA in directing from the American Film Institute, going on to study acting with Roy London and Ivana Chubbick, plus stage directing in the legendary Actor's Studio and Beverly Hills Playhouse. Thus, when he transitioned from shooting to directing The Affair, the actors unofficially crowned him their favorite 'Actor’s Director.' Dominic West repeatedly asserted "You were born to direct."

He is a board member and former Vice-President of the American Society of Cinematographers, board member of IMAGO (Int'l Cinematography) and member of the Academy of Motion Pictures, the Television Academy, SAG/AFTRA, IATSE 600 and the DGA. In between projects, he guest teaches at AFI, MMW, USC and UCLA.
